From Chaos to Calm—Re-imagining Delhi’s Mobility
The ITO-Skywalk project in New Delhi is designed to address the challenges of identity in urban infrastructure and mobility, while accommodating the complexities of urban density. It intersects with one of the busiest mobile cross-junctions in the city, which experiences a significant rush of pedestrian traffic during peak office hours. The lack of available land in densely populated cities further complicates this issue.
To tackle this problem, the design team created a Free Board (FOB) skywalk that would allow pedestrian traffic to flow freely at the junctions and prevent people from using railway tracks to cross the street. This solution created connecting points that allow for easier and less chaotic pathways for daily commutes between the junctions while enabling a better reach among the cross-junctions in the busy ITO neighbourhood of New Delhi.
