GD Goenka Public School - Creating World Class Institutional Building in India

This school campus has been solicitously designed to create an active and vibrant environment which prompts learning and richly enables the teaching procedure. It has been designed by DFI to even the most infinitesimal elements that address the present-day needs of the students. The designing provides for an advanced infrastructure in a manner characteristic of a few city schools in the country. Because the two-acre site sits on a busy road, it is a soundproof building. It is centrally air-conditioned with temperature control (heating and cooling) with a hundred percent power and water backup.

One acre of the site accommodates sport and recreational facilities and the other one acre accommodates the academic facilities and the parking for the 14 in – house school buses. The entire built-up area is lifted on stilts to create a safe boarding system for the children and the setback area is used to park and house the busses, this ensures clean parking space and the children can embark and disembark very safely into the stilted area that houses the main school. The classrooms are well ventilated and glare-free, they are built along a simple c – shaped plan that creates a central cavity which is used as a central atrium that enables an intimate relationship between the exterior and interior through a visual link. The safety of the students and staff are kept a high priority and therefore two, 2m wide fire escape staircases along with the staff rooms are provided in the corners, this allows for a complete view of sports area from along the corridors.

Its architectural vocabulary comprises of the traditional use of material like Dholpur and Agra stone juxtaposed with transient materials like Aluminium and heat insulation glass. The interior color palette comprises of playful primary colors juxtaposed cleverly with biscuit colored brick walls and the exterior composition of the school is hence monastic in its character and reads as a three-level composition with a heavy stone base made of Dholpur stone. GD Goenka School has been designed and built in a way that it delivers the flexibility of spaces in different modalities with both extrovert and introverted elements which are intrinsically balanced.
