INDIAN INFRASTRUCTURAL GROWTH
This month, we take a closer look at urban development in India and explore the facets of infrastructural growth through various design interventions. Having undergone a sea change in the current times and with the evolving economy, at #DFI, we have embarked on a nation building drive with some initiatives to decongest streets, revamp railway stations and augment airport terminals.
New Integrated Terminal
Guwahati International Airport
The boost that airport privatization has received in recent times bodes well for the nation's travelers. Exploring contemporary materials and a compelling aesthetic sense that yearns for timelessness, we envisage the new terminal building at the Guwahati International Airport to become a unique symbol of Northeast India’s progress and prosperity. The terminal aims to improve connectivity while crafting an immersive travel experience through design features, which include an indoor rain forest and a 'crafts village' showcasing the indigenous crafts of the Northeast.

ITO Skywalk, New Delhi
At the ITO intersection in Central Delhi, where rush-hour traffic is relentless, an effective strategy that called for an integrated skywalk was put in place to ensure adequate pedestrian mobility. Defying the drab solidity of the surroundings, we conceived the structure as a serpentine tube, coiling around major intersections.

Dakshineshwar Skywalk, Kolkata
The Dakshineshwar Skywalk in Kolkata manifests as a striking symbol of continuity and fluidity that beckons visitors to the gates of the iconic Kali temple, a seamless expression of glass and steel that looks towards the future. We relocated over 200 shops from the street level, integrating them with a concourse via multiple ingress points, with a provision to connect the walkway to the railway footbridgesfeaturing separate lanes for motorized and non-motorized traffic.
Amritsar Railway Station
The railway redevelopment initiative targets the new-age traveller, with a list of much-needed upgrades—reinforcing existing infrastructure, as well as planning commercial and transit-oriented development. Our proposal for the Amritsar Railway Station revamp includes a series of design interventions to enhance passenger safety and comfort.
